The Pack That Gives Back

Over 28,000 kids in Cincinnati live below the federal poverty level. We have the second highest child poverty rate in the nation with over half of Cincinnati children unable to count on basic needs, let alone basic school supplies. How can a child create, grow, take chances or find their passion when they don’t even have a pencil? Education can help break the cycle by reducing poverty and increasing a person’s chances of having a healthy life.

For the last 12 years, GIVE BACKpacks has given backpacks to students at Ethel Taylor Academy, a public K-6 grade school in Cincinnati’s Millvale neighborhood, one of the most impoverished areas of the city. Kids in this community worry about hunger, a safe place to call home and are witness to violence that many don’t realize exists right in downtown’s backyard. School supplies are not top of mind for them or a priority for that matter. That’s where we come in.

We have been fortunate enough to partner with individuals and generous Cincinnati businesses to buy backpacks and fill them with essential school supplies that that’s an entire school year. If you’re interested in donating or sponsorship opportunities, please reach out to Suz Tainter at
